Asian Waterbuffalo

Have you ever wanted to shoot a Cape Buffalo, but did not want to foot the huge expence? Well now you can, hunt the Cape's full cousin . . the Asian Waterbuffalo for a fraction of the cost, right here at home.

Our Waterbuffalo Hunts are presently done in Texas, on a 1500 acres forested property. You will hunt for Trophy Feral Bulls only, and we are limited to only a 2-3 each year. This hunt is conducted in traditional "buffalo hunting" style, on foot, stillhunting, spot and stalk, and in your face action. This hunt is not for the faint of heart, and one hunt you will never forget!

The Asian Water Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) is a massive, powerful animal, with impressive  wide or curling horns. Its preferred habitats are wet lowland areas containing swamps and creeks, grassy slews, and their surroundings. The Water Buffalo eats grass and leafy aquatic vegetation. It is a grazer, feeding in the morning and evenings and lying up in dense cover or submerging in wallows during midday. In addition to keeping it cool, wallowing helps to remove skin parasites, biting flies, and other pests. The Wild Asian water buffalo  still survives in the wild in limited numbers in India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Thailand. They were introduced to Australia in the early 18th century, where escapees quickly naturalized and ran rampant, and feral  populations still exist, and this is  the only part of the world where they are legally hunted and considered "wild". Adult bull buffalo average 60 inches tall at the back, and may exceed 1 ton in mass weight and are terrific table fare.

Buffs can be solid black or brownish-gray with lighter-coloured legs. They are massively built with strong bodies and short legs ending in large hooves that enable them to navigate swamp with ease. Their horns sweep back, then up and in, frequently terminating in spiral curls. The Asian  Buffalo are a full cousin and look very similar to the African Cape Buffalo, but without the boss.

Water buffalo can be very dangerous and we recommend a .375 calibre or bigger.

NOTE: We only do a 2-3 hunts each year, as we want to maintain high quality older trophy bulls for your clinets. Hunts can be conducted in the spring or fall. All hunts are all inclusive (3 days 4 nights, Meals, accomidations, guide services, in field dressing, quartering and caping trophy). Hunts start in Houston Texas, we will pick you up at the airport, 2011 cost of hunt $5950.00. Not included in your hunt is "Texas Exotic Hunt Licence" (~$150, we will assist you in getting this licence), meat processing, tipping, alcohol, or any taxidermy.

What is Water Buffalo Meat Like . . .

Lean and tasty, water buffalo meat contains less than one-fourth the amount of fat and half of the cholesterol of beef. Cooked, it closely resembles (and tastes like) lightly marbled beef. People compare it to "old fashioned beef" due to its abundance of good rich beefy flavour. Our buffalos grow naturally, and slowly, which improves the flavour and nutritional value of the meat. Water buffalo meat is very lean, containing less than half the fat of beef (and proportionally less saturated fat) and 40-60% less cholesterol. It is rich source of protein , B-group vitamins, vitamin D, niacin, phosphorus and the essential minerals iron and zinc with all the proven health benefits. as with all grass fed animals, the meat is also a good source of omega-3-fatty acids.

Don't wait another year, experince a hunt for the Cape Buffalos full cousin in traditional style. Call us today!
